We took part in "Abakuchi and Kaza-ana Caves Excavation Team" (directed by Prof.Dr. DODO Yukio, the School of Medicine, Tohoku University) as well as 1996. Keio party mainly excavated at Kaza-ana Cave, O'hasama Town, Iwate Prefecture from July 22 to August 9.

Kaza-ana Cave is situated in west end of Kitakami highlands and along Yagimakigawa River which joins Kitakamigawa River. The limestone cave is located on approximately 12 meters above present riverbed level, and 1 meter in width and 10 meters in length.

In 1996 we had discovered a number of the animal bones at the layer 4. They probably had become extinct about 10,000 years ago in the Japanese Archipelago. Moreover . Therefore we have pointed out the possibility that they were took into the cave by paleolithic people.
