3. Polydore Vergil, Urbinatis

Polydore
Vergil, an Italian who was in England as the collector of Peter's
pence, was commissioned by Henry VII (and later by Henry VIII)
to write the British history, which he took 28 years to complete.
The first edition was printed in Basel in 1534. The Keio copy
(the second edition) is decorated with woodcut border and historiatd
initials[1],
in the style and layout broadly comparable to that found on
the opening page of the fifteenth-century Italian incunabulae,
as well as on on late medieval prayerbooks in general.
