6. Andrea Alciati, Emblemata
More
than 175 editions of Alciato's Emblemata are known to
be extant, ranging from a heavily annotated edition of the 16th
century to a 18th-century 16mo edition printed on coarse paper.
The number of emblems rose from the original 98 to 212 by the
end of the seventeenth century. This edition of 1626 is a parallel
edition of Latin and Italian, translated by P.E. Cadamosto of
Vicenza [1] [2].
The illustrations are basically same as those in the 1584 Paris
edition (no.5).
