    History of Education in France, History of Educational Thoughts

    My central research is on the history of education in Modern France, especially from the Enlightenment era to the end of 19th century, clarifying the meanings of educational thoughts in the intellectual, social, cultural contexts. Among the educational systems, my study traces changes in the French secondary education focusing on teaching and learning of humanities, and of philosophy. I'm also interested in considering contemporary issues of knowledge and education in the light of philosophical studies and social history of knowledge.

    I am conducting research on the history of ideas regarding education and human formation (Bildung), primarily in the German-speaking world during the 18th and 19th centuries. My focus is particularly on the institutional roles and ideals of universities and museums as spaces for human formation.

    My research interest is education in the Global South of Asia and Africa, and I am engaged in both research and practice. In particular, I focus on themes that cannot be measured by academic achievement tests, such as inclusive education and the development of non-cognitive skills. In addition to "research," I am also involved as an expert in "practical work" such as JICA projects, and am working on both at the same time, trying to achieve synergy.

    I explore a wide range of topics related to human behavior, development, and evolution. Specific research interests include the origin and development of individual differences in personality and social relationships (parent-child relationships, romantic relationships, etc.), outcomes of individual difference variables such as personality and intelligence during life-long development, and individual differences and evolution of environmental sensitivity through quantitative research methods.

I am conducting psychological research on social and cognitive development as well as mental health in children during infancy and early adolescence.

    With the keywords ‘language’, ‘experience’ and ‘transformation’, I am currently engaged in the following research topics. (1) an attempt to re-evaluate and reconstruct the analytical philosophy of education in its pioneering period, with a focus on R. S. Peters; (2) an analysis of Kihaku Saito's theory of teaching and Tsuneo Takeda's lesson records; and (3) research on Wittgenstein's philosophy of religion and religious thought.
